Citizen Science

Dive with a purpose

While diving with our dive center, you can go one step further and contribute to the understanding of the seabed in the Natural Park through two very simple citizen science projects…

you only need a camera!

PROJECT

Blue Diving

This is a joint project promoted by the dive centers of l’Estartit and Bufalvent.
During the dive, a small action camera is carried either attached to the BCD or the wrist, taking automatic sequential photos. Afterwards, the footage is sent in and a form is filled out with dive data and key observations for analysis.
The objectives of this project are:
1.To gather a large amount of data to determine the conservation status of each dive site through the analysis of common key species.
2.To engage the diving community in research and conservation projects for better understanding, preservation, and improvement of marine habitats.

PROJECTE

REX

This is our own project, supported by Submon.
The project aims to increase knowledge about the grouper population in the Medes Islands and Montgrí Coast through a citizen science initiative based on grouper photo-identification.
